NRMA welcomes continued roads investment in NSW state budget

The NRMA has today welcomed more than more than $19.3 billion in transport capital expenditure including $8.6 billion for roads.

Today's budget announcement of $19.3 billion in transport capital expenditure includes $724 million going to regional NSW across Regional Roads and Emergency Road Repair funds, and more than $280 million for making roads safer this year.

Funding for roads in greater Sydney includes $4.7 billion over four years for the Western Harbour Tunnel Upgrade and $770 million to establish an Urban Roads Fund over four years to plan and build major roads in metropolitan areas, including improvements to key corridors in Heathcote, Riverstone, and smaller projects to improve roads in local communities.

NRMA Spokesperson, Peter Khoury welcomed the Budget.

“This budget is a continuation of the important infrastructure projects that are vital to our economy and keeping our great state moving including the Sydney Metro West and the M6,” Mr Khoury said.

“We are also pleased the NSW Government has increased funding for integral roads in greater Sydney including Heathcote Road, King Georges Road, and Prospect Highway.”

Key greater Sydney projects funded under the state budget include:
  • $810 million for the Western Harbour Tunnel
  • $389 million for upgrades to Waringah Freeway
  • $300 million for the Sydney Gateway
  • $434.7 million for the construction of the M12 motorway
  • $106.2 million over four years for the M7 M12 Integration project
Key regional projects funded under the state budget include:
  • $1.3 billion over four years for the Coffs Harbour bypass
  • $355 million for construction of the M1 Pacific Highway extension to Raymond Terrace
  • Over $187 million for the Parkes bypass as part of the Newell Highway upgrades
  • $97 million for the upgrade for the Pacific Highway at Wyong
  • $12.3 million to complete the Silver and Cobb Highway upgrades
