The NRMA is encouraging motorists to fill up this week with prices falling towards the bottom of the cycle, before rising again.

The average price for regular unleaded in Sydney is 190.5 cents per litre and is nearing the bottom of the cycle. The average price for diesel in Sydney is 200.2 cents per litre.

Sydney’s wholesale price for regular unleaded is 184.7 cents per litre, rising 5.3 cents over the last week. The wholesale price for diesel is 186.5 cents per litre increasing 2.8 cents over the last week.

Around 44 per cent of service stations in Sydney are selling petrol at below 187 cents per litre. One in five service stations in Sydney are currently selling regular unleaded for over $2 a litre.

Mogas – Australia’s international benchmark price – has risen $US 5 a barrel to $US 104 a barrel. NRMA Spokesperson Peter Khoury said petrol prices were nearing the bottom of the cycle and were expected to rise again next week.

“For families going on an Easter road trip, they should fill up now before travelling for the long weekend. There is currently a 55 cent gap between the cheapest and most expensive service stations in Sydney.

“Before leaving home to fill up, motorists should jump on the My NRMA app or the fuel check app for their state to find the best local price in their area. Current average prices across Australia’s capital cities:

  • Adelaide 192.3 cents per litre and falling
  • Brisbane 202.0 and falling
  • Melbourne 203.4 and falling
  • Perth 180.1 and falling
  • Sydney 190.5 and falling
  • Canberra 208.7 and stable
  • Darwin 191.7 and stable
  • Hobart 198.6 and stable
