The Sydney price cycle is on the rise leading into the King’s Birthday long weekend in unwelcome news for motorists hoping to get away during the holiday period.
The average price for regular unleaded in Sydney today is 183.8 cents per litre after having risen 15.3 cents per litre this past week.
Sydney’s wholesale price for regular unleaded is 157.1 cents per litre, down 0.3 cents per litre in the past week. Average Mogas – Australia’s international benchmark price – is trading just under $US 77 a barrel.
50 per cent of service stations in Sydney are selling petrol at below 163 cents per litre, with 42.5 per cent selling regular unleaded above $2 per litre.

Adelaide 159.8 cents per litre and falling
Sydney’s average price for diesel is currently 175.1 cents per litre. Diesel wholesale prices are currently 158.3 cents per litre.
NRMA Spokesperson Peter Khoury said while petrol prices across Sydney were rising there were still savings to be found by shopping around and filling up early.
“Families in Sydney hoping to enjoy a well-earned break over the long weekend should fill up now as prices are going to continue to rise into and beyond the June long weekend,” Mr Khoury said
“There are still bargains in Sydney so please get onto the My NRMA app and find the best price in your local area before filling up. There’s a 62.4 cent per litre gap between the cheapest and most expensive service stations in Sydney, which represents a $34.30 saving on a tank of petrol.”
