Young Driver Care terms and conditions

The following explains the terms and conditions of your NRMA Young Driver Care membership. The Young Driver Care membership program is operated by National Roads and Motorists' Association Limited (NRMA) and is designed specifically to enable young drivers to access Roadside Assistance from the NRMA and/or its service providers.

1. Your Young Driver Care membership

1.1 What is the Young Driver Care program?
Young Driver Care is a membership program ("Program") under which a Young Driver Care member ("member") aged 16 - 20 can participate in the Program for up to three years.
1.2 Who can become a member?

You can become a member if you:

  • are an individual who is a permanent resident or citizen of the Commonwealth of Australia and you reside in New South Wales or the ACT;
  • are aged between 16 and 20 as at the date you apply to join the Program;
  • do not hold an existing and active NRMA membership; and
  • submit a complete and accurate application to join the Program using one of the following channels:
    • Apply online at mynrma.com.au/roadside-assistance/youngdrivercare;
    • Apply in person at any NRMA Insurance branch; or
    • Call 13 11 22.
1.3 Members under 18
If You are under 18 years of age, You must obtain the consent of Your parent or legal guardian before joining the Young Driver Care Program. By joining the Program, You confirm that You have Your parent’s or legal guardian’s consent to do so.
1.4 Membership exclusions

The following are not eligible for Young Driver Care membership:

  • A corporation with an Australian Business Number (ABN), Australian Company Number (ACN) or Australian Registered Body Number (ARBN);
  • A corporation or other organisation incorporated under a government statute but not having an ACN or ARBN (for example an incorporated association and certain statutory authorities);
  • The officeholder or trustee of an unincorporated association; and
  • An individual who owns or drives a taxi or commercial vehicle.
1.5 Waiting period to obtain roadside assistance
Roadside Assistance can become available to you 48 hours after you have paid your Subscription Package Fee, if applicable. If Roadside Assistance is requested within 48 hours of becoming a Young Driver Care member, then an On-Road Join and Go Fee will apply. You can find out about the current applicable On-Road Join and Go Fee by calling 13 11 22.
1.6 Becoming a member
There is no initial joining fee to join the Program. Members can choose to pay a Subscription Package Fee if they wish to obtain Roadside Assistance under the applicable Subscription Package for the final two years of the Program.
1.7 Transferring Subscription Packages
A Young Driver Care membership and Subscription Package cannot be transferred to other individuals.
1.8 Changing levels of cover

In the second or third year of the Program, a member is eligible to purchase a regular NRMA Subscription Package.

If you upgrade from a Young Driver Care Subscription Package to an Everyday Care, Complete Care or Ultimate Care Subscription Package, You will need to pay the price of the new Subscription Package, less any credit for the unused portion of Your current paid Young Driver Care Subscription Package. This will entitle you to the Everyday Care, Complete Care or Ultimate Care benefits for 12 months from the date You upgrade.

1.9 Change of Young Driver Care membership details
You may request a change to your Young Driver Care membership details. We will require written proof of your change of name before a change of name is affected on your Young Driver Care membership.
1.10 Young Driver Care membership years

In order to participate in loyalty programs, your Young Driver Care membership must be current and continuous. Accrued membership years from any other existing, lapsed or cancelled NRMA membership cannot be transferred to your Young Driver Care membership.

Any Young Driver Care membership years or other benefits you have accrued under a Young Driver Care membership that has lapsed cannot be transferred to another new or existing Young Driver Care membership or a regular NRMA membership.

1.11 Expiry and cancellation of membership and Subscription Packages

When does a Subscription Package lapse and a membership expire?

Each Subscription Package must be paid for by its expiry date. If the Subscription Package Fee is not paid within 60 days of the expiry date, the Subscription Package will lapse. If all Subscription Packages on a membership lapse, You will remain as an Affiliate member (as defined in the Constitution) of the NRMA for a further period of 7 years or such other time period as we deem reasonable. These services will not include Roadside Assistance services unless you purchase another Subscription Package. If You do not wish to be an Affiliate Member and do not want to receive the associated Affiliate Member benefits, you can contact us at any time to cancel your Membership.

Once Your membership is cancelled, You will be removed from the NRMA Register of Members. If You want to re-join after your membership has been cancelled or expires for any reason you may be required to pay a Subscription Package Fee.

Any Membership years accrued with the expired Membership cannot be credited to the new Membership. If you would like to know what services are currently available to Affiliate Members, please contact us on 13 11 22.

Cancelling your Young Driver Care membership and/or Subscription Packages

You may cancel your Young Driver Care membership and/or Subscription Package at any time. If you cancel your Young Driver Care membership and/or any Subscription Packages, you will no longer be entitled to receive any Program benefits.

If you cancel your Young Driver Care membership, you will not be permitted to rejoin the Program or start a new Program. If you wish to obtain NRMA Roadside Assistance again in the future, you will need to purchase a regular Subscription Package (excluding My NRMA Rewards). NRMA will not refund to you any fees associated with any cancelled Subscription Packages.

1.12 Unpaid accounts
If You have any unpaid accounts (including unpaid On-Road Join and Go fees, charges for NRMA Batteries, Auto Electrics, Towing, spare parts or emergency fuel) or if a renewal is overdue at the time of Breakdown, You will not be entitled to any membership benefits (including Roadside Assistance) until the accounts are paid in full. If You request Roadside Assistance when Subscription Package has not been renewed, You must pay an On-Road Join and Go fee.
1.13 No refund policy

All fees paid to the NRMA relating to Young Driver Care membership (including Subscription Package Fees, On-Road Join and Go fees and callout fees) are non-refundable, unless we are required by law to give a refund.

On-Road Join and Go fees are non-refundable, regardless of whether the request for Roadside Assistance is subsequently cancelled, or whether we are able to repair or mobilise the Vehicle.

1.14 Advance payment of Subscription Package fees

You may pre-purchase Subscription Packages in advance if you pay the relevant fees (located at mynrma.com.au/roadside-assistance/youngdrivercare) within one month of joining the Program. You will be permitted to pre-purchase Subscription Packages for no more than three years.

In the event that you pre-purchase Subscription Packages for the entire period of the Program and you wish to cancel a Subscription Package in any year before the final year of the Program, all Subscription Packages pre-purchased for the entire period will also be cancelled. NRMA does not refund fees for any unused part of a Subscription Year when a Subscription Package is cancelled. However, we may refund fees for any unused full Subscription Years.

1.15 Voting entitlements

Your voting rights as a member of the NRMA are governed by our Constitution. The Constitution of the NRMA sets out the rights of members in relation to elections and meetings of members, and deals with certain other aspects of membership. On becoming a member, all Members agree to be bound by this Constitution.

Please note that if the Subscription Package Fees for all Subscription Packages on a membership remain unpaid by the expiry date, then the member's voting rights and entitlements may be affected as governed by the Constitution. 1.16 Privacy
We will collect, store, use and disclose Your personal information in accordance with relevant legislation and the NRMA Group Privacy Policy. The NRMA Group Privacy Policy is available at mynrma.com.au/privacy-policy. On joining, You confirm that You have read and acknowledge the terms of the NRMA Group Privacy Policy. Our Privacy Policy includes information about safeguards in place for Your personal information.
1.17 Your Rights - Australian Consumer Law
Despite anything contained in these Terms and Conditions, the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) gives You statutory rights including guarantees and remedies that cannot be excluded or modified by these Terms and Conditions. The ACL guarantees and remedies include (depending on the type of failure, fault, or defect) repair or replacement, a refund, compensation for reasonably foreseeable loss or damage, or a resupply of the goods or services if the goods or services do not meet the standards required by the ACL. These Terms and Conditions do not purport to exclude any statutory rights available to You and must in all cases be read subject to those statutory provisions.

2. Annual Report and Corporate communications

2.1 Notices of Meeting and Proxy Forms
If You have nominated an electronic address or other electronic means as part of Your application to be a member or when renewing Your membership, we may use that electronic address to make electronic member communications including sending You or informing You of the availability of notices of meetings of members and proxy forms, materials relating to the election of directors, the NRMA Annual Report, the members' review and other company related information. Generally You will be emailed a link to a secure website to view or download Your documents, quickly and easily.
2.2 How will I receive my Documents?
Each year the documents will be mailed or emailed by the earlier of 21 days before the date of the Annual General Meeting of that year or 31 October.
2.3 Can I change my Preference?
Yes. Call anytime on 13 11 22 or access 'Manage Your Subscription' at mynrma.com.au or by registering and creating Your profile on the My membership section on the mynrma website.

3. Young Driver Care Program benefits

3.1 Roadside Assistance

If you are on a "Young Driver Care" Subscription Package, you are entitled to:

  • Roadside Assistance in any Vehicle you are travelling in at the time of Breakdown (with the exception of a taxi or commercial vehicle);
  • four (4) free Roadside Assistance callouts per member per Subscription Package year – if four (4) roadside assistance call outs are exceeded per Subscription Package Year, a standard excess call out charge per call out will apply. Please contact us to confirm current pricing at the time of requesting a call out.

Vehicles are not eligible if they are greater than: 3.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM); 5.5 metres in length; 2.5 metres in width; or 2.6 metres in height. Trailers are not eligible.

3.2 Towing for Your Vehicle and/or Trailer

In Metropolitan Areas: If Your Vehicle breaks down, the first 8 km of Towing in any direction from the point of Breakdown is free-of-charge.

In serviced Country Areas: If Your Vehicle breaks down, You will be Towed free-of-charge to the town of the attending Country Service Centre or within the town of the attending Country Service Centre. If You want to have Your Vehicle Towed in any direction other than back to the town of the attending Country Service Centre, You must pay Commercial Rates for the full costs of Towing at the time of the Tow.

If You break down in a Remote Area Towing will be provided but You must pay Commercial Rates at the time of the tow, for the total distance travelled by the Country Service Centre operator, from the Boundary to retrieve Your Vehicle and from the point of Breakdown back to the Boundary.

Towing for trailers will be provided at Commercial Rates payable by You at the time of service.

3.3 Benefits by year
Year 1 benefits:

Eligible individuals who apply to join the Young Driver Care Program are eligible to receive free Roadside Assistance for a period of 12 months.

Members on the Program will receive Roadside Assistance for any Vehicle that they are travelling in at time of a Breakdown (excluding taxis and commercial vehicles) and are not required to nominate a specific Vehicle to receive Roadside Assistance. There is a limit of four (4) free Roadside Assistance callouts per member per Program year.

Year 2 benefits:

In year 2, members on the Program are eligible to purchase a paid Young Driver Care Subscription Package or a regular Subscription Package (excluding My NRMA Rewards) to receive Roadside Assistance for 12 months.

A member who purchases a paid Young Driver Care Subscription Package will receive Roadside Assistance for any Vehicle that they are travelling in at the time of a Breakdown (excluding taxis and commercial vehicles) and are not required to nominate a specific Vehicle to receive Roadside Assistance. There is a limit of four (4) free Roadside Assistance callouts per member per Program year.

A member who purchases a regular Subscription Package (excluding My NRMA Rewards) will need to nominate a specific Vehicle to receive Roadside Assistance.

Year 3 benefits:

This is the final year of the Program.

In year 3, members on the Program are eligible to purchase a paid Young Driver Care Subscription Package or a regular NRMA Subscription Package (excluding My NRMA Rewards) to receive Roadside Assistance for a period of 12 months.

A member who purchases a paid Young Driver Care Subscription Package will receive Roadside Assistance for any Vehicle that they are travelling in at the time of a Breakdown (excluding taxis and commercial vehicles) and are not required to nominate a specific Vehicle to receive Roadside Assistance. There is a limit of four (4) free Roadside Assistance callouts per member per Program year.

A member who purchases a regular NRMA Subscription Package (excluding My NRMA Rewards) will need to nominate a specific Vehicle to receive Roadside Assistance.

At the end of year 3, members on the Young Driver Care Program must purchase a regular Subscription Package (excluding My NRMA Rewards) to continue receiving ongoing Roadside Assistance entitlements.

4. Young Driver Care Roadside Assistance

4.1 Nominating a vehicle for Roadside Assistance

On becoming a member, you are not required to nominate a Vehicle to receive Roadside Assistance if a Young Driver Care membership is purchased, as you will receive Roadside Assistance for any Vehicle you are travelling in at the time of a Breakdown under a Young Driver Care Subscription Package.

If you purchase a regular NRMA Subscription Package (excluding My NRMA Rewards), you must nominate a Vehicle under the Subscription Package you choose to purchase for that year to receive Roadside Assistance and you must be the registered owner or primary driver of the Nominated Vehicle. You will not be entitled to receive Roadside Assistance for any Vehicle except the Nominated Vehicle.

4.2 Revocation of Roadside Assistance

Roadside Assistance will not be provided to you if you or a passenger in the Vehicle you are driving in at the time of the Breakdown is, in our reasonable opinion, abusive, threatening or violent to any NRMA staff or agents, or if you attempt to receive service by deception. In such circumstances, we may at our discretion

  • suspend or limit services to you;
  • impose service fees for further service requests; and/or
  • subject to a resolution of the Board of Directors, revoke your membership.
4.3 Joining after you breakdown
If you require immediate Roadside Assistance for a Vehicle and you do not have a current Young Driver Care membership and/or Subscription Package, you must pay an On-Road Join and Go fee.
4.4 Providing Roadside Assistance

Roadside Assistance is provided to mobilise any Vehicle (excluding taxis and other commercial vehicles) in which a member is travelling in which has become disabled due to an unexpected Breakdown. It does not cover regular maintenance or permanent repairs that should normally be carried out in a licensed repair workshop.

When providing Roadside Assistance, we carry out temporary repairs where we have the necessary tools available at the time of the Breakdown. You are responsible for having permanent repairs carried out to any Vehicle you are travelling in at your own expense. You are responsible for making sure that the Vehicle is registered, even if it does not have a registration label.

When requesting Roadside Assistance under the Program, you will need to provide your NRMA membership number, the make, colour and registration number of the Vehicle requiring Roadside Assistance and your location.

If we cannot confirm that you have a current Young Driver Care membership and/or Subscription Package, in addition to Subscription Package Fees, an On-Road Join and Go fee will be charged for providing Roadside Assistance to you.

Although we make every effort to provide and arrange all services and benefits, providing them will depend on the availability of equipment and resources, particularly in Country Areas and Remote Areas.

4.5 Vehicle Weight and Dimensions

Vehicles are not eligible if they are greater than: 3.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM); 5.5 metres in length; 2.5 metres in width; or 2.6 metres in height.

If we are unable to mobilise Your Vehicle because it is over the eligible weight limit under the nominated Subscription Package, we will assist You to make alternative arrangements at Your own expense.

4.6 Emergency fuel

If your Vehicle runs out of fuel, where possible we will supply enough fuel for you to drive your Vehicle to the nearest refuelling station where you can purchase fuel during their trading hours. You will be charged for and must pay for the emergency fuel supplied to you at the time of supply.

If we are unable to provide fuel or if Your Vehicle uses LP Gas, we will provide Towing to the nearest refuelling station (subject to Your Towing entitlements) where You can purchase fuel.

4.7 Lockout

We will attempt to open the Vehicle you are travelling in if your keys to the Vehicle have been locked in the Vehicle. If we cannot open the Vehicle we may assist by providing You with the details of a locksmith. You are responsible for contacting and arranging attendance by any locksmith, and any locksmith services are at Your own expense. If we cannot open the Vehicle, we may also arrange for a Tow in line with your Subscription Package entitlements. For any Towing which in excess of the distance for which you are eligible under your Subscription Package, you must pay the Tow provider for the Excess Kilometres at prevailing commercial rates at the time of the Tow.

If you are not the registered owner of the Vehicle you are travelling in, Vehicle registration details may be checked against our membership database to obtain the registered owner's details for the purposes of obtaining consent from the registered owner for a Patrol Officer to access the Vehicle.

4.8 Wheel changing

We will change a flat tyre provided You have a roadworthy spare available and Your Vehicle is:

  • Under 3.5 tonnes GVM on a Young Driver Care Subscription package

If a roadworthy spare is not available we will Tow the Vehicle in line with your Subscription Package entitlements. For any Towing which in excess of the distance for which you are eligible under your Subscription Package, you must pay the Tow provider for the Excess Kilometres at prevailing commercial rates at the time of the Tow.

Roadside Assistance will not be provided for damaged wheels or fitting of a wheel to a rim.

4.9 Supply of materials, fuel and spare parts
Roadside Assistance does not include the cost or supply of materials, emergency fuel or spare parts. If these are carried by a Patrol and are used to provide Roadside Assistance, you must pay for them for at the time of service. Spare parts will not be picked up, delivered or fitted (unless carried by our Patrol or other service provider).
4.10 Un-located or unattended vehicles
In the case of a Breakdown, You must be able to provide us with the correct location of Your Vehicle. You must be present with the Vehicle or at an agreed meeting place when we arrive.
4.11 Response time

We endeavour to provide Roadside Assistance as soon as is practicable in response to Your request. Response time is not guaranteed and may vary depending on, among other things, the location of the Vehicle and the general demand for Roadside Assistance at the time Your request is received.

If You use a mobile phone or GPS device to request Roadside Assistance, we will endeavour (where possible) to use the mobile phone or GPS device signal to identify the location of Your Vehicle.

We record all incoming and outgoing telephone calls in order to improve our service and for quality assurance purposes.

4.12 Roadside Assistance for trailers
Roadside Assistance is not available for Trailers under a Young Driver Care Subscription Package.
4.13 General Exclusions

The NRMA services do not cover:

  • an Unregistered or Unroadworthy Vehicle or an Unregistered or Unroadworthy Trailer;
  • a Vehicle or Trailer that is used for business or commercial purposes;
  • a Vehicle on which repairs have been attempted by anyone (including a licensed motor vehicle repairer), or that is partly or fully dismantled;
  • a Vehicle that has suffered damage as a result of an Accident, Flood, theft, Fire or malicious damage;
  • a Vehicle that has, in our reasonable opinion, suffered Water Damage;
  • a Vehicle which is located at any licensed motor vehicle repairer including a Country Service Centre;
  • any financial loss or liability in any way connected with a Breakdown or Accident;
  • freight costs or costs for any sea crossings;
  • a Vehicle if the member continues driving against our advice or the advice of a licensed repairer;
  • a Vehicle that has been transported to a wharf, transport depot, rail head or other similar holding or shipment facility;
  • a Vehicle that has been used in a car rally or motor race or requires specialised tilt trays for towing;
  • if You appear to be intoxicated or if You or any passengers’ conduct is violent, threatening or offensive;
  • Roadside Assistance will not be provided for damaged wheels or rim fitting;
  • a Vehicle that is being driven or attended to by a driver that does not have a valid driver's licence; or
  • a Vehicle that has suffered a Breakdown or other disrepair any time before the 48 hour waiting period has expired

You must tell us if You or the Vehicle falls under any of these exclusions.

The NRMA services will not be available:

  • when in the reasonable opinion of the NRMA, a Breakdown is deemed unsafe for a Patrol Officer to attempt, or continue attempting, to mobilise a Vehicle; or
  • to a re-occurring Breakdown deemed to be the result of a failure to repair the cause of the fault to Your Vehicle which caused the initial Breakdown.

In the above situations we will assist in arranging an alternative service or towing at Your expense, which must be paid for at the time of service.

4.14 Roadside Assistance callout limits

Where you are eligible to receive Roadside Assistance under your Young Driver Care Subscription Package, you are entitled to four (4) free Roadside Assistance callouts in each Subscription Year of the Program.

Where a Patrol attends the Breakdown site and a tow truck or battery patrol also attends the same Breakdown, this will count as one callout. A callout does not include a Tow where you have paid for the Tow and does not include the dispatch of a battery patrol.

If you require more than four (4) Roadside Assistance callouts in a Program year, you will be required to pay a service fee at the time of each additional callout over and above your callout entitlements. Alternatively, you can purchase a Subscription Package, which covers you for additional callouts at your expense for the Subscription Package year.

If you do not use all your free callout entitlements during any year of the Young Driver Care Program, you may not carry those entitlements over into the next Program year.

4.15 Add-ons for Roadside Assistance

Subscription Package Add-ons are not available with the Young Driver Care Subscription Package.

Subscription Packages Add-ons are only available to be purchased with Everyday Care, Complete Care and Ultimate Care Subscription Packages where applicable, and are only valid for a Subscription Year.

If You require an Add-on, You will need to upgrade from a Young Driver Care Subscription Package to an Everyday Care, Complete Care or Ultimate Care Subscription Package.

5. Towing

5.1 Vehicle Weight and Dimensions

For Young Driver Care Vehicles are not eligible for Vehicle transport if they are greater than: 3.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM); 5.5 metres in length; 2.5 metres in width; or 2.6 metres in height.

Roadside Assistance is not available for Trailers under a Young Driver Care Subscription Package.

5.2 Towing benefits

The location of the Breakdown and your Subscription Package, will determine the Towing benefits, which will be provided to you.

Where you are eligible for Towing entitlements, you are entitled to one Tow per Breakdown for your Vehicle and/or Trailer at the time of Breakdown. You should arrange to travel with the Vehicle to its intended destination.

We will attempt to transport all passengers in the Vehicle provided each person can be legally transported in the tow truck. If we are unable to transport all passengers, we will assist in arranging alternative transport at your expense.

5.3 Type of tow

Towing will be provided for Vehicles which do not exceed 3.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass on a Young Driver Care Subscription Package provided that the Tow can be made with Standard Towing Equipment and Standard Towing Equipment is available.

If Special Towing Equipment is required, the estimated cost of the Tow will be provided using the most appropriate equipment available (such as lift-tow, flat-top truck or trailer) as determined by us. In Country Areas and Remote Areas in particular, limited types of tow trucks may be available. Should Special Towing Equipment be required (such as power winches, extended cables, or a four-wheel-drive towing vehicle) you must pay the Towing provider for the Tow at prevailing commercial rates at the time of the Tow.

5.4 Toll and tow costs
You must pay any toll costs incurred during the Tow at the time of the Tow. If you have to pay for a Tow and/or toll costs and our Towing provider accepts a credit card payment, you may be required to pay a credit card surcharge.
5.5 Clean up fee
You must pay a clean-up fee to the Tow provider if contamination from your Vehicle makes it necessary for the tow truck to be taken off the road and cleaned. If an additional service is required to clean up the road, you will also be required to pay for this service.
5.6 Subsequent tows for the same breakdown
Once a Tow has been provided for a Breakdown, you must pay for any subsequent Tows for the same Breakdown at prevailing commercial rates at the time of service. This includes Towing for a Vehicle or Trailer that has been towed after hours to the member's Home Address, a holding yard or other place of safety.
5.7 Excess Kilometres
If a Tow for your Vehicle at the time of Breakdown is in excess of the distance for which you are eligible under your Subscription Package you must pay the Tow provider for the Excess Kilometres at prevailing commercial rates at the time of the Tow.
5.8 Salvage Tow
If Your Vehicle has become bogged without being involved in an Accident, we will attempt to salvage You from the situation without calling for a tow truck. This can only be done for Vehicles less than 3.5 tonnes GVM. If Towing equipment is required, this will be at Your expense.

6. Areas Covered

6.1 NSW and ACT

We provide Roadside Assistance services in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Outside the Metropolitan Areas, Roadside Assistance is provided by our Country Service Centres, which cover most Country Areas throughout New South Wales.

We only provide Roadside Assistance on private property or any Trafficable Road that is accessible to normal, two-wheel-drive vehicles. Service may not be available to Vehicles which have broken down in open fields; beaches; creek beds; parks and ovals; tracks, trails or service roads used for logging or forestry or by electrical authorities, in national parks or wilderness areas, on any public or private property where entry of vehicles may cause damage or is restricted or any other locations where the prevailing conditions cause an area to become unserviceable.

6.2 Interstate

If Roadside Assistance is requested in a state or territory other than New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, the broken down Vehicle will receive the standard services (equivalent to Everyday Care Subscription Package benefits where available) in the state or territory that the Vehicle is broken down in.

6.3 Remote areas

If You have a Breakdown in a Remote Area, we will try to organise Roadside Assistance through the nearest Country Service Centre. When the Country Service Centre is able to provide Roadside Assistance You must pay at the time of service for the distance the Country Service Centre operator travels beyond the Boundary both to and from the point of Breakdown.

In certain Remote Areas there may be occasions when we are unable to find an appropriate service provider to assist You. In these rare instances You will be required to arrange Your own rescue or recovery at Your own expense.

7. Glossary

These Terms and Conditions use the following definitions:

Accident means an incident in which a Vehicle has been damaged in a collision or impact with another object, whether another vehicle or not, or whether caused by a mechanical failure. This includes a series of incidents arising out of a single event.

Australian Motoring Clubs means each and any of the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) Ltd; The Royal Automobile Club of Queensland Limited; The Royal Automobile Association of South Australia Inc; The Royal Automobile Club of WA (Incorporated); The Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania Limited and Automobile Association of Northern Territory Inc.

Available Subscription Package means our products: My NRMA Rewards, Everyday Care, Complete Care, Ultimate Care, Traveller Care and Young Driver Care.

Boundary means the perimeter of the geographical area which is serviced by a Country Service Centre.

Breakdown means an occasion where a Vehicle cannot be driven due to mechanical or other failure, the cause of which is not an Accident, theft, Fire, Flood or malicious damage or the cause of which is not discovered during a maintenance or service check.

Callout means a response to a request for assistance where a Patrol Officer or tow truck is despatched to and arrives at a Breakdown, including if a tow truck, auto-electric or battery patrol also attends the same Breakdown.

Commercial Rate means the cost applicable to the relevant goods or services, provided such rate is reasonably determined by the supplier.

Constitution means the Constitution of the National Roads and Motorists' Association Limited ("NRMA") as amended from time to time.

Country Areas means all areas of New South Wales that are outside the Metropolitan Areas but that are within the Boundary of Country Service Centres.

Country Service Centre means a contractor in a Country Area appointed by us to provide Roadside Assistance to members' Vehicles.

Excess Kilometres means excess kilometres over and above a member's Towing entitlements under the applicable Subscription Package.

Fire means heat or flame which damages the panel work, mechanical or electrical parts of a vehicle.

Flood means a rising or overflow of water in a normally dry area, water course or water crossing.

GVM stands for Gross Vehicle Mass and means the maximum allowable total mass of a fully loaded motor Vehicle or Trailer, consisting of the tare mass (mass of the Vehicle or Trailer) plus the load (including passengers).

Home means the member's permanent place of residence as recorded in our membership database or, if a P.O. Box is recorded, as stated on the member's current driver’s licence.

Member, You and Your means any person or entity who has agreed to become a member of the NRMA whose name is entered on the NRMA Register of members, and who subscribes to any of the Available Subscription Packages.

Membership means the rights of members in respect of being a member and/or having a Subscription Package.

Metropolitan Area means the metropolitan areas of Sydney, Newcastle (including Raymond Terrace, Nelson Bay and Maitland), Blue Mountains (including Springwood and Katoomba), Illawarra (including Kiama, Wollongong and Picton) and all areas of the ACT.

Nominated Vehicle means any Vehicle nominated for service by a member in a Subscription Package and for which an annual fee has been paid for the period during which service is requested.

NRMA, we, our, us means the National Roads and Motorists' Association Limited, ABN 77 000 010 506 trading as the NRMA, and includes its officers, employees, agents and contractors.

On-Road Join and Go Fee means the fee paid by You for immediate Roadside Assistance requested at the time of a Breakdown where You do not have a current Subscription Package that includes Roadside Assistance. This fee also applies when Roadside Assistance is requested within the 48 hour waiting period. For the avoidance of doubt, My NRMA Rewards does not include Roadside Assistance, and a member who holds only My NRMA Rewards will be required to pay the On-Road Join and Go Fee.

Patrol or Patrol Officer means an NRMA employee or contractor providing Roadside Assistance.

Primary Driver means the individual who drives the Nominated Vehicle most often.

Roadside Assistance refers to assistance provided to a Vehicle by a Patrol Officer to attempt to restore the mobility of the Vehicle at the Breakdown location and other services provided to a Vehicle at the location of a Breakdown by an NRMA Patrol, and includes providing a Tow, battery or contractor to restore the mobility of the Vehicle, or to allow it to be driven or removed to a place where complete and/or permanent repairs can be carried out.

Remote Area means all areas of New South Wales that are outside the Metropolitan Areas and Country Areas.

Serviced Area means any area in which we provide Roadside Assistance within a Metropolitan Area or within a Country Service Centre Boundary.

Special Towing Equipment means any towing apparatus that is not covered under the definition of Standard Towing Equipment.

Standard Towing Equipment means any towing apparatus that is the equivalent of a two-wheel drive truck fitted with a tilt tray, slide bed, hoist or cradle, or a vehicle and trailer combination.

Subscription Package means any of our products:

My NRMA Rewards, Everyday Care, Complete Care, Ultimate Care, Classic Care, Premium Care, Premium Plus, Traveller Care, Young Driver Care and Basic Care.

Subscription Package Fee means the fee payable when you nominate a Vehicle, or individual where applicable, on a Subscription Package to receive Roadside Assistance.

Subscription Year means the current valid year of a member's Subscription Package.

Taxi includes cabs and ride sharing services such as Uber.

Tow, Towing, Towing Service or Towed means the service provided according to these membership Terms and Conditions to a Vehicle or Trailer disabled by a Breakdown, and involving its removal from the Breakdown site to another location using whatever Standard or Special Towing Equipment is available and considered appropriate by us.

Trafficable Road means any public or private road, which is designed for and is in a suitable state for the use of a two-wheel drive motor vehicle. It includes the road-related areas immediately adjoining the road itself like road shoulders, breakdowns, medians and parking including any road which the NRMA has permission to use and which can be accessed safely by a standard NRMA Patrol vehicle.

Trailer means any two, three or four-wheeled trailer, caravan, horse or dog trailer or boat trailer that does not exceed 2 tonnes GVM (or 10 tonnes GVM for Premium Plus or Vehicle Plus), 12.5 metres in length; 2.5 metres in width and 2.6 metres in height and which is being used for private or recreational purposes but excludes trailers or caravans registered or used for commercial purposes.

Unregistered Trailer means a Trailer that does not have a current registration as required by the respective State motor authority or a Trailer that does not display a registration label (if one is required).

Unroadworthy Trailer means a Trailer which has been issued with a defect notice, or whose condition makes it unsafe and which cannot be made safe through the provision of temporary Roadside Assistance as reasonably determined by us.

Unregistered Vehicle means a Vehicle that does not have a current registration as required by the respective State motor authority or a vehicle that does not display a registration label (if one is required).

Unroadworthy Vehicle means a Vehicle which has been issued with a defect notice, or whose condition makes it unsafe to drive and which cannot be made safe to drive through the provision of temporary Roadside Assistance as reasonably determined by us.

Vehicle means any registered automobile or motorcycle nominated for Roadside Assistance.

Water Damage means damage caused directly or indirectly by water, as reasonably determined by the NRMA.
