Young Driver Care is a roadside assistance package designed for drivers aged 16–20, offering 24/7 support anywhere in Australia.
It provides personal cover in any car, whether you’re driving or riding along, with 4 callouts included each year. It’s free for the first year, then just $8.99 a month which makes it an easy, affordable way for young drivers to stay protected on the road.
Is there a waiting period before I can use Young Driver Care?
Yes, roadside assistance becomes available 48 hours you join the program. If you need help within that 48-hour period, an On-Road Join and Go fee may apply.
Do I need a parent or guardian’s permission if I’m under 18?
Yes. If you’re under 18, you need your parent or legal guardian’s consent before joining Young Driver Care. By joining the program, you acknowledge that you consent from your parent or legal guardian to do so.
Do I have to nominate a vehicle?
No. With Young Driver Care, you don’t need to nominate a vehicle.
Young Driver Care is personal cover, so it applies when you’re travelling in an eligible vehicle at the time of a breakdown, rather than being tied to one nominated vehicle. Excludes taxis, rideshare and commercial vehicles.
What happens after my first free year?
Young Driver Care is a three-year program. After the first free year, you can continue with a paid Young Driver Care subscription for up to another two years. At the end of the program, you’ll need to purchase a regular NRMA subscription package if you want ongoing roadside assistance.
Can I cancel Young Driver Care at any time?
Yes. You can cancel your Young Driver Care membership at any time. If you do, you’ll no longer receive program benefits.
If you cancel your Young Driver Care membership, you can’t rejoin the program or start a new program later. If you want roadside assistance again in future, you’ll need to buy a regular NRMA subscription package, even if you are still aged between 16-20.
Will I get a refund if I cancel?
Generally, no. All fees paid to the NRMA relating to Young Driver Care membership are non-refundable.
What if I need more than 4 roadside callouts in a year?
Young Driver Care includes 4 roadside callouts per subscription year. If you go over that limit, an additional service fee applies for each extra callout, and unused callouts don’t roll over into the next subscription year.
Are there any situations or vehicles that aren’t covered?
Yes. Young Driver Care doesn’t cover some situations, including taxis/rideshare, commercial vehicles, unregistered or unroadworthy vehicles, trailers, accident/fire/flood/theft damage, or breakdowns that happened before the 48-hour waiting period ended.
Could I still have to pay extra at the time of service?
Yes. Costs such as battery replacement, emergency fuel, spare parts, excess towing kilometres, special towing equipment, and some remote-area towing costs may need to be paid by you at the time of service.
Can I upgrade to another NRMA roadside package later?
