Ignoring a windscreen chip can prove costly

Windscreen chip

You're cruising along, enjoying the drive, when — ping!— a stone flings up and hits your windscreen. It's just a tiny chip. No big deal... right? Wrong. That small chip can turn into a long, jagged crack. Often when you least expect it — especially with temperature changes, bumpy roads or simply over time. Once it spreads, you're most likely heading for a windscreen replacement, which could have been avoided.

Repair Early. Make a Big Difference.

"Repairing a chip is a quick, cost-effective solution that can often avoid a full windscreen replacement," says Mo El Chami, from O'Brien® AutoGlass. "With the right resin and correct technique, the chip is sealed so strongly that it won't reappear." Plus, it's convenient, as an O'Brien technician can even come to you (in most areas).

Why act quickly?

  • It's faster: A repair is quicker than a windscreen replacement, plus you can drive away immediately.
  • It's cheaper: Repairing a chip can cost on average between 3-5 times less than replacing your windscreen (with most modem cars also needing an ADAS recalibration at the same time). Or if you have car insurance, it could be free.
  • It's greener: A simple chip repair emits an estimated 80% less in carbon emissions than a windscreen replacement. That's the equivalent of saving about 66kg of CO2* per repair!

So, next time you hear that loud ping and get a chip, book a repair and hopefully save yourself from a windscreen replacement!

Get chip-ready ahead of your next road trip, and grab a free O'Brien Saver Patch Kit for your glovebox. This patch will keep your chip free of dirt and debris until your repair is done. Available to anyone at your nearest O'Brien® AutoGlass location.
