Chery has announced pricing and specifications for the Chery Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid, a new seven-seat plug-in hybrid that crowns the Chinese manufacturer’s local line-up in Australia – for now.
Following in the wheel tracks of the existing Chery Tiggo 4, Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8, the 2026 Chery Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid is available in a solitary flagship grade, priced at $59,990 plus on-road costs.
At that money, the Tiggo 9 will compete with like-minded seven-seat SUVs including the Hyundai Santa Fe (from $53,650 plus ORCs), Skoda Kodiaq (from $56,990 plus ORCs) and Kia Sorento (from $51,380 plus ORCs).
What differentiates it, however, is a clever plug-in hybrid powertrain that purportedly offers a claimed electric range of 170km and a combined range of 1250km (albeit both based on the ageing NEDC lab-based testing cycle – no WLTP figures were available at the time of writing). Average fuel consumption is rated at 1.4L/100km.
The hybrid powertrain combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with three electric motors and a 34kWh battery. Total combined power and torque is listed at 315kW and 580Nm respectively, with six driving modes helping maximise its all-wheel drive underpinnings.
Meanwhile, a Type 2 AC connection facilitates AC charging capacity up to 6.6kWh, and a CCS2 connection enables DC fast-charging capacity up to 71kWh.
Standard equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Cooper tyres, power-retractable door handles, panoramic sunroof, puddle lights, auto-dimming rear view mirror, a wireless phone charger, heated and ventilated front seats with massaging function, heated and ventilated second row seats, USB charging for first and second row, integrated second row window shades,
Infotainment comprises a 15.6-inch centre touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, matched to a digital instrument cluster and a head-up display. A 14-speaker Sony audio system is also listed as standard.
On the safety front, the Chery Tiggo 9 offers adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot detection.
The Tiggo 9’s airbag suite covers the first two rows of occupants, but does not extend to side airbag protection in the third row, according to officials.
According to Chery Australia, the Tiggo 9 has undergone local testing to ensure the safety systems are tuned to local roads and driving behaviours. No current safety rating is available, however brand officials say they are working with ANCAP to get local testing underway.
Boot space is listed as 143 litres with the third row in place, 819 litres with third-row seats stowed, and 2065 litres with the second and third rows laid flat.
The Chery Tiggo 9 is available in five colours: Aurora Green, Cosmic Black, Technical Grey, Star White and Mercurial Grey Matte.
The Tiggo 9 is covered by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty and an eight-year, unlimited-kilometre high-voltage battery warranty.
Also included within the purchase price is seven years’ roadside assistance, while capped price servicing is offered for the first seven years of ownership (averaging at $453 per annum based on 12-month/15,000km intervals).
The Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid goes on sale later this month. It will retain flagship positioning withing Chery's line-up until the brand's as-yet unnamed ute launches at the end of 2026.
