Set against the majestic backdrop of Lake St Clair, Pumphouse Point has officially commenced a new era of high-end nature-based travel with two brand-new luxury retreats and a series of enticing guest experiences.

Opened just last week, the new suites mark the next chapter in a $2.25 million upgrade led by NRMA Parks and Resorts. The new retreats are designed to meet growing demand for exclusive escapes that combine barefoot luxury with the raw beauty of Tasmania’s Central Highlands.

Tucked into ancient myrtle forests within the UNESCO-listed Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, Pumphouse Point has earned an enviable reputation for its exceptional blend of comfort, seclusion, and connection to nature.

The new retreats aim to make the most of the forest’s edge setting, with floor-to-ceiling views across Lake St Clair and the historic namesake pumphouse. Interiors reflect the earthy palette and textures of the surrounding landscape, while locally crafted furniture, ceramics and amenities pay homage to Tasmanian design.

More than just a place to stay, Pumphouse Point is evolving into a destination for immersive, slow travel. In line with this vision, NRMA Parks and Resorts has also unveiled a series of new guest experiences that connect visitors more deeply with the landscape, history, and flavours of the region.

The ‘Pumphouse Point History Tour’ is a 45-minute guided walk exploring the site’s industrial origins and reimagining as a beacon of sustainable tourism. ‘House of Anvers Chocolate Tastings’ was developed in partnership with Tasmania’s famed chocolatier, House of Anvers, which gives guests a chance to sample rich, locally made chocolate while learning about the craft and culture behind it.

Paul Davies, CEO of NRMA Parks and Resorts, says the new retreats are just the beginning of a long-term investment in Tasmania’s high-value, nature-based tourism.

“Pumphouse Point is already firmly established as one of Tasmania’s most iconic accommodations,” he said. “This investment in luxury inventory and guest experiences is the next step in evolving the destination and offering something truly special.”

Pumphouse Point is ideal for couples, honeymooners, and adventurers seeking a bit of indulgence after a day of bushwalking in the surrounding Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. And My NRMA Rewards members get exclusive discounts on their stay.
