The Cadillac of Aussie EVs?

After more than 50 years out of the Australian market, Cadillac is set to return in 2024 with the release of the electric Cadillac Lyriq.

The SUV will be factory-built in right-hand-drive and arrive here as a 2025 model.

The General Motors-owned luxury car maker will be opening an ‘Experience Centre’ in Sydney and Melbourne to sell the Lyriq, as well as providing for direct online sales to customers, meaning it won’t be seen in dealerships here alongside other GM offerings like the Chevrolet Silverado pick-up and Corvette sports car.

The move follows a string of false starts for Cadillac over the years when it proposed a comeback with various other models.

The difference this time around is it will be all-EV affair in Australia, where Cadillac is hoping to capitalise on a burgeoning electric vehicle market with strong uptake potential.

GM Australia and New Zealand managing director, Jess Bala, says the Lyriq is just the first of more Cadillac releases here.

“Today signals the arrival of an automotive masterpiece in Australia and New Zealand and I have every confidence people will share my enthusiasm for Lyriq – the first model in what promises to be a portfolio of right-hand-drive Cadillac EVs for these markets.”

The Cadillac Lyriq will feature a 102kWh lithium-ion battery and dual electric motors, delivering 373kW and 610Nm in AWD.

Headlining its interior is a single 33-inch LED instrument cluster/infotainment screen and a 19-speaker AKG audio system.

Range figures, charging times and prices will all be announced later in 2024.
