Planning your next family vacation over the school holidays and need some ideas for family friendly places to stay on a budget? With numerous NRMA holiday parks and resorts located across Australia, and endless adventures abound, we’ve got you covered.

1. Jindabyne, Snowy Mountains, NSW

Where to stay: Located on the foreshore of Lake Jindabyne, and on the doorstep of Thredbo, Perisher, and the country’s highest peak, Mount Koscuiszko, NRMA Jindabyne Holiday Park is an idyllic place to take the family to explore Australia’s Alpine landscape.

What to do: The Snowy Mountains offer winter action to suit every snow enthusiast — whether you’re a first timer, seasoned expert, downhill or cross-country skier. And when you’re not hurtling yourself down a mountain, take in spectacular views from the Mount Kosciuszko summit walk, experience a winter wonderland in the snow fields, explore the endless lakes and waterways, or join a mountain biking or horse-riding tour.

2. Myall Shores, Mid North Coast, NSW

Where to stay: If water sport adventure holidays are your thing, then you’ll love your stay at NRMA Myall Shores Holiday Park. Located on absolute lakefront in the centre of Myall Lakes National Park, and just a short drive from the beach.

What to do: Take a dip in the ocean, try your hand at fishing, and make sure you plan for day of kayaking too – the best way to explore the Myall Lakes, the largest natural freshwater lake system of its kind in Australia. You’ll be sharing the space with kangaroos, wallabies, possums, koalas and an array of birds, so get your walking shoes on and take a stroll through the bushland, or go for a long bike ride amongst the wildlife.

3. Tasman Peninsula, TAS

A panoramic view of the rocky, green topped cliffs of a peninsula, with a boat speeding along its coast.

Where to stay: Awarded the Gold Medal in the 2017 Tasmanian Tourism Awards, NRMA Port Arthur Holiday Park is the perfect base for exploring the famed Tasman Peninsula.

What to do: Located one kilometre north of Port Arthur, it is central to the area’s iconic attractions including the Port Arthur Historic Site. Get up close and personal with one of the islands most iconic inhabitants, the Tasmanian Devil, at the Unzoo project, or choose from a diverse range of bushwalking and short trail options for all abilities. The Coal Mines Historic Site is a great starting spot. Learn about the rich history of the site by reading stories of those who lived there while wandering the trails.

4. Hat Head, Macleay Valley Coast, NSW

A family walking along a path on a grassy cliff's eduge, over a sunny, white sand beach and forested shores.

Where to stay: Being only a hop, step and jump from the creek, beach or bush, a visit to Hat Head Holiday Park is a real opportunity to get back to nature.

What to do: Visit the Smoky Cape Lighthouse, one of the oldest and tallest lighthouses in Australia, and choose from an endless number of bushwalking tracks and trails, the track to Korogoro Point being the most notable. Prefer to be closer to the water? Explore 12km of uninterrupted beach, snorkel at Korogoro Creek, or cast a line for Spanish mackerel.

5. Gold Coast, QLD

Turquoise water dotted with surfers, most paddling on their stomachs, with one standing to surf a small wave.

Where to stay: Enjoy the ultimate family holiday on Queensland’s Gold Coast with a stay at the award winning NRMA Treasure Island Holiday Resort, only a 15 minute drive north of Surfers Paradise, and centrally located between major theme parks.

What to do: Get your thrills at Sea World, Dreamworld and Movie World NRMA Members — and don't forget, NRMA Members save on entry to Gold Coast theme parks. Rent a surf board, swim or stroll along 70kms of idyllic surf beaches. Head to Springbrook National Park for plenty of family-friendly walking tracks ranging from 300m to 54km in length.
