The DriveTime Program was a driver licensing support program that provided supervised driving practice for refugees.
DriveTime which was funded by the NRMA - provided participants with driving lessons, cars, instructors, driving tests and education support. The NRMA covered all the costs, allowing participants to focus solely on resettling in Australia.
What commenced as a 6 month pilot program in November 2016 of the DriveTime Program in the Illawarra and Western Sydney has since assisted over 435 refugees settle in Fairfield and Wollongong with driver licensing support. To date 220 participants have obtained P1 licences - 102 of whom have since gained employment.
