The resort is located in the heart of the majestic Southern Forests region, a leisurely 3.5hr drive from Perth and 22km from the town of Pemberton. The resort’s chalets and facilities sit among thick forest on the edge of the lake, creating a sense of utter seclusion. The Lakeside Restaurant is the resort’s hub, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week and featuring a menu teeming with locally sourced produce and regional wines. Facilities on site include the animal farm, where the young and young at heart can feed local marsupials at 3pm each day, and mini golf for those with a competitive streak. Fishing gear, kayaks and canoes can be hired on site and knowledgeable staff can help you plan a hike through the woods.
Accommodation at the resort has been designed to enhance your connection with nature, with rooms and chalets generously spaced around the site, and all feature balconies with outdoor seating. Lakeside Rooms are ideal for couples, with water views, queen beds, electric heating and TVs with DVD players. The spacious chalets feature either two bedrooms (which sleep four in total) or three bedrooms (seven in total), and are available with either forest or water views. All chalets include full kitchens with microwaves and combined lounge and dining areas with TVs and DVD players. There is a log fire in every chalet, too – chopped firewood is provided free of charge in winter.
There’s an entire holiday’s worth of activities to enjoy in and around the resort, so make sure you speak to the friendly staff about planning your preferred combination of cycling, trout fishing, freshwater swimming, hiking, canoeing and kayaking. Off site, the handsome town of Pemberton is an easy 20 minute drive. Stop at the visitor centre to get your bearings or to book one of the individually run local tours, including thrilling 4WD adventures and nighttime canoeing, then climb the historic Gloucester Tree to marvel at the forest canopy or dive into the forest’s iconic Pemberton Pool, which was built in the 1920s for loggers. Explore the Pemberton Wine Region, making sure to visit Hidden River Estate for its cellar door and excellent restaurant and the Truffle & Wine Co., which runs truffle hunting tours in season. Or visit Jarrah Jack’s Brewery for award winning small batch beer and distinctive woodsmoke wines.
